ShipBob today announced the opening of its largest fulfilment centre to-date in Chicago to further streamline fulfilment and bring next-day and 2-day shipping to ecommerce businesses. At 105,000 square feet, the new fulfilment centre is six times larger than the current Chicago location and more than two times larger than any other fulfilment centre in the ShipBob network.
As ShipBob’s largest fulfilment centre, the new location will store more than three million units for thousands of customers by December. The fulfilment centre’s address is 5900 W. Ogden Avenue in Cicero, IL, located conveniently next to the BNSF rail yard. The location will allow for swift access to intermodal transportation for moving items in a low-cost fashion. The location will continue to offer a same-day shipping option for select merchants’ customers in the greater Chicagoland area.
“When our lease expired at our old location, we seized the opportunity to increase our footprint in the Chicago area to support the scale and growth we are seeing in the marketplace,” said ShipBob CEO and Co-Founder Dhruv Saxena. “As demand from ecommerce companies grows across the Midwest region, we have the chance to bring customers the high-quality shipping and logistics they desire.”
ShipBob will also bring new jobs to the area with plans to hire more than 60 new employees during non-peak season, and 100 employees during peak season. Contributing to the expansion is Peter Beck, who will start as the Senior Operations Manager of the Chicago fulfilment centre in mid-September. Beck previously served as the OM of ShipBob’s Los Angeles fulfilment centre and will be moving to Chicago for his new role, where he will help to streamline operations in ShipBob’s largest market.
More than 1,000 ecommerce businesses use ShipBob every day to run their supply chain operations. With demand on the rise and fulfilment centres in Brooklyn, Chicago, Dallas, Los Angeles, and San Francisco, ShipBob will continue to target bigger facilities in urban areas across the country to offer faster, more affordable shipping to online merchants’ shoppers from all corners of the United States.
